Imagine going without a coat, shoes, or even socks. For millions of children and adults experiencing homelessness and other urgent need situations across the country, this is the reality. McCarthy Subaru of Lawrence partnered with Operation Warm®, a national nonprofit focused on connecting children with the resources they need to thrive. On 2026-02-13, McCarthy Subaru of Lawrence donated 132 Shoes/Socks to The Salvation Army Douglas County. These essential items not only help keep children protected, warm, and dry, it has a significant impact on a child's mental and emotional well-being. At The Salvation Army Douglas County, we are so grateful for this gift that will help so many in our community.

McCarthy Subaru of Lawrence Supports LMH Health Cancer Center with Blanket Drive and Team Outreach Lawrence, KS July 2025 At McCarthy Subaru of Lawrence, community commitment goes beyond the showroom floor. This July, our team proudly partnered with LMH Health Cancer Center and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) for the second consecutive year to deliver comfort, hope, and appreciation to cancer patients and their caregivers right here in Lawrence. Through this heartfelt initiative, over 100 high-quality blankets were donated to LMHs oncology wing. These blankets will provide warmth and comfort to patients undergoing lengthy infusion treatments small gestures that can make a big difference during long and often difficult hours. But we didnt stop there. Each blanket was accompanied by a handwritten message of encouragement from our team members, sharing words of hope, strength, and community. In addition, we delivered thoughtful gifts for the incredible medical staff and provided lunch for the entire department during our day of service. October was an awesome month full of adoption specials for both cats and dogs! McCarthy Subaru of Lawrence and the ASPCA for sponsoring $100 of every adult dog adoption in October. And to Hills Pet Nutrition and Kitten Lady for helping us sponsor adoption fees for 80 cats and kittens loving homes in just two weeks! From October 1st to October 31st, we found 251 animals loving homes at Lawrence Humane - that's something definitely worth celebrating!

This Halloween season, McCarthy Subaru of Lawrence brought the community together with a family-friendly "Trunk or Treat" event that was equal parts fun and festive. Customers, employees, and local families gathered at the dealership, where the parking lot transformed into a creative Halloween wonderland. Decorated vehicles lined the lot, showcasing themed displays that ranged from spooky to silly, as staff and community members handed out candy and treats to enthusiastic trick-or-treaters. On Monday, July 8, 2024, McCarthy Subaru of Lawrence generously delivered 80 blankets and 30 patient care kits to the LMH Health Cancer Center in Lawrence, KS, as part of the Subaru Loves To Care partnership with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). These comforting gifts were accompanied by personalized messages of hope written by the customers and staff at McCarthy Subaru of Lawrence. The LMH staff were so grateful to receive these gifts, and they look forward to distributing them to their patients. Thank you to everyone at McCarthy Subaru of Lawrence and the LMH Health Cancer Center for their incredible support of the LLS mission to cure blood cancers and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.
Finn, a Subaru Wunderdog All Star - Elina A
Lawrence Humane Society was so excited to team up with McCarthy Subaru of Lawrence again this year for another Wunderdog month-long adoption event! The theme of this year's adoption event was Wunderdog All-Stars, because we believe that every dog is an MVP and deserving of a loving, forever home. During this special, all dogs ages 6 months and older got to have $100 off their adoption fees. One such Wunderdog All-Star who was adopted during this event was Finn, a 5 year old Lab mix who had all the odds stacked against him. Finn came to Lawrence Humane in early August 2023, terrified and nearly feral from a lack of socialization. He had been living as a stray in rural Douglas County and it took nearly two weeks to get him trapped and brought to Lawrence Humane. When he arrived, his physical state mirrored the lifestyle he had been living - he was extremely thin from lack of nourishment, had terrible diarrhea, and was full of parasites. However, even more challenging was Finn's social and emotional health. Finn was terrified of everyone and everything, and completely shut down. Staff members weren't even able to get a collar or leash on Finn for the first week that he was at the shelter. The Lawrence Humane behavior team made it their mission to work with Finn and help him learn that humans can be trusted. The Lawrence Humane staff worked with Finn every single day for nearly three months, building trust, helping him get comfortable with humans (and affection from humans), and helping him get used to the sounds and bustle of daily activities. Shelter staff regularly had Finn as the "office dog" so that he could learn that people walking, moving, and talking didn't signal danger. Some staff members took him home overnight for occasional "sleepovers" so that he could experience home life. Eventually, Finn began to relax and trust humans. He began to make eye contact and not shy away. He even began to solicit human attention and affection! The Lawrence Humane behavior team finally felt that he was ready to be made available for adoption, and Finn's move to the adoption floor happened to coincide with our Subaru Wunderdog All-Star adoption event. The couple who ultimately would end up becoming Finn's adopters came to Lawrence Humane because they saw our Subaru Wunderdog All-Star Facebook posts promoting the month-long adoption special. They had been thinking about adopting a dog and the posts promoting the adoption special seemed like a sign that they should go for it. Unfortunately, they didn't connect with any of the dogs during their first visit to the shelter. However, they knew that the special lasted an entire month, so they decided to come back again later. And this time, when they came back to Lawrence Humane towards the end of the month, they saw Finn, who had recently been moved up to the adoption floor. They heard Finn's story and connected with it. They felt that they could offer him the kind of time and patience that he needed in order to feel comfortable, and so they made the leap and adopted Finn! And while Finn may not have been our first Subaru Wunderdog All-Star to be adopted during the month-long adoption special, there were MANY tears shed among staff, knowing that he finally got the happy ending that he deserved!

McCarthy Subaru of Lawrence supported the 2022 "Fur Ball" fundraiser for the Lawrence Humane Society and won the auction item for a person to be able to be a "Vet for the Day" at the Humane Society. We wanted to also connect the Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence for this opportunity and they held a competition and Club Kiddo, Emily won the opportunity to be "Vet for a Day" and she had an absolutely wonderful experience.

McCarthy Subaru of Lawrence is excited to now be partnering with Sporting Kaw Valley. We are working with Kirsten Judd, Executive Director of Sporting Kaw Valley to set up this ongoing partnership. Our support of Sporting Kaw Valley will be providing funding for scholarships for elementary age students to be able to participate in recreational soccer. The intent is for more kids ion Lawrence and Topeka to enjoy soccer, learn about the game, get great exercise and make new friends.

In 2023 we again partnered with the Lawrence Community Shelter to support Subaru Loves to Help. On February 28th, we donated 1,000 pairs socks, including both Adult and Youth sizes, to the shelter. We are proud to be alongside Subaru in supporting the Lawrence, KS community, the Lawrence Community Shelter and the needs to support the homeless community.

On Thursday, December 1st and Saturday, December 3rd, McCarthy Subaru of Lawrence was excited to host "Pet Pics with Santa." This was an event organized by our great partner, the Lawrence Humane Society. This annual event serves as a fundraiser, as each family makes a small donation to the Lawrence Humane Society and in turn they get great pics of their pet(s) with Santa and Mrs. Claus. They hold the event early in December, as many people then use these pictures for their holiday cards.

This event celebrates the talent that resides in all middle and elementary students and event challenges students to go beyond what they feel they can do. The leadership at the Lawrence Boys & Girls Club works to show each member that they can challenge themselves and in the process improve their self esteem, as they enjoy the event and grow as a person in the process.
